Another huge day at The Star Gold Coast has resulted in two more trophies being given away, with Jon Peter “JP” Rounce-Sue and Raphael Tenenbaum the latest to add their names to the WPT Australia honour roll.
Tenenbaum was the first to reach the summit in the $5K 8-Max Action clock shortly after 4pm local time, after he and heads-up opponent Ankit Ahuja got all their money into the middle on a flop of 9♥4♥2♣.
Ahuja tabled 10♥9♠ for top pair, and had to fade plenty of outs; Tenenbaum tabling 6♥2♥ for bottom pair and a flush draw.
Getting there immediately on the J♥ turn, it was Tenenbaum’s turn to fade as Ahuja could still take the pot with another heart on the river, but the 5♣ was the final card of the tournament and with that, Tenenbaum secured his maiden Tier One victory.

Just over half an hour later, Rounce-Sue was mobbed by family and friends after mounting an epic comeback against Daniel Hachem, who held 90% of the chips in play going into the heads-up phase of the Opening Event.
Rounce-Sue wrestled back the chip lead before Rounce open-shoved on the river with the board that showed 10♦2♣J♥K♦2♥, which put Hachem deep into the tank before making a crying call, only to muck after Rounce-Sue tabled K♥10♠ for two pair.
